Minnesota has long tradition of cross-country ski racing. The Mora
Vasaloppet is one of the largest XC ski races in the nation, attracting
well over 2000 skiers for the annual February event. And with more than
30 citizen races in Minnesota, there are plenty of opportunities for
racers during the winter.
The Minnesota State High School League has over
80 teams and more than a thousand high school skiers competing annually,
making it one of the largest prep Nordic skiing organizations in the
nation.
Minnesota has also produced numerous Olympian caliber skiers,
including George Hovland, John Burton, Kevin Brochman, Todd Boonstra, Ben
Husaby, Johnny Engen, John Bauer, and Suzanne King.
